Rethink the ways your occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system can continually improve workplace conditions.

ISO 45001:2018 addresses the risks that lead to accidents in the first place. It’s the new ISO occupational health and safety standard that replaced 18001 OHSAS. Instead of just trying to keep hazards under control, this more proactive, preventative initiative gives you the framework for:

  • Fostering a safe and healthy work environment
  • Minimizing workplace-related injuries and illnesses
  • Meeting OH&S legal and policy requirements

Companies certified to OHSAS 18001 have through March 2021 to migrate their management systems certification to ISO 45001. Whether you need an upgrade, first-time certification or registration transfer, we’re consistently ranked as one of the top accredited registrars for overall customer satisfaction.

Benefits of Certification

Put health and safety improvements to work at all levels of your organization.

Our audit process for ISO 45001:2018 management systems certification provides structure for implementing occupational health and safety (OH&S) objectives that:

  • Improve both worker and customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrate corporate responsibility
  • Meet supply chain requirements
  • Protect your reputation
  • Potentially increase business opportunities

Reducing long- and short-term social and economic costs associated with health issues and lost work days creates effective business continuity. By establishing planned monitoring, measurement and control measures in line with ISO 45001, you:

  • Improve risk management
  • Make hazards more clearly identifiable
  • Mitigate potential risks
  • Maintain your safety record

Key Success Factors

Adopting the internationally-recognized framework of ISO 45001 helps ensure a safer and healthy workplace regardless of business type, size, activities or locations. Reaching these goals depends on:

  • Leadership that promotes a culture supportive of OH&S
  • Ongoing commitment throughout your entire organization
  • All organizational levels participating in identifying OH&S hazards and risks
  • Integration of OH&S management systems into your business practices

Initial Certifications

Commit to keeping your workforce safe.

Over 370 million accidents occur on the job annually. More than 2.78 million people die each year due to work-related activities. ISO 45001:2018 works with your management system to implement forward-thinking safety initiatives.

In some sectors and industries, independent third-party certification is a legal or contractual requirement. Having a registered certificate also establishes credibility while demonstrating your processes meet customer and consumer expectations.

Certifications are valid for three years and achieved in two stages.

Stage one determines how ready your organization is for certification. What we do is:

  1. Review documents about your organization’s processes and management
  2. Perform an on-site inspection of procedures
  3. Report potential nonconformities (areas that might not meet standards)

Stage two is when our auditors return and do a comprehensive review of your quality management system. This is where we:

  1. Confirm the effectiveness of your system
  2. Provide feedback about nonconformities
  3. Verify all standards have been met

After an independent reviewer* confirms our decision, we:

  1. Issue a certificate saying you’ve met all ISO 45001 requirements
  2. Publish your certification listing on our website
  3. Perform semiannual or annual surveillance audits to ensure system maintenance

*The independent reviewer is legally an NSF International employee and bound by the requirements of our contract. Certification evaluations and decisions are made impartially and independent from any NSF International activity.
