NSF works with leading organizations throughout the world, helping them manage their operations and supply chain through scheme management, auditing and verification, and second- and third-party supplier assurance audits.

Organizations realize that a strong social responsibility program is key to reducing risk, improving the lives of their employees, increasing competitiveness and building client, investor and consumer confidence.

Socially responsible organizations realize that their activities have an impact on society and the environment and that they can also be used as a measure of overall business success. They work to mitigate risk and impact through transparent and ethical behavior throughout the organization and relationships, contributing to sustainable development. Social responsibility issues affect organizations regardless of their activity, size or location.

Services

Social responsibility can be difficult to manage. In many ways it’s very simple – putting people at the center of your decision-making and acting in the interests of society at large. Though in practice, the journey can be complicated. NSF has a long history in social responsibility and can help you on the road to implementing your program. We provide:

  • Supplier assessments: We help you conduct assessments that focus on the verification of compliance by prioritizing rigor and efficiency, and leveraging existing audit and compliance procedures on participant suppliers.
  • Responsible sourcing strategy development: We create a strategy that helps manage supply chain risks, protect security of supply and enhance brand reputation. Worker well-being, climate change and political instability represent risks that are dynamic, complex and interconnected and go to the foundation of all businesses.
  • Risk assessment and/or audit: We assess your supply chain to help you understand and map your vulnerabilities.
  • Roadmap design: We help you define objectives to guide your business to your responsibility targets.
  • Horizon scanning: Our customized services cover trends and emerging issues in the areas that may affect your business – helping you to plan for the future.
  • Modern slavery: We can advise on your obligatory modern slavery statement, risk assess, map and advise on issues. We have a suite of training tools to raise awareness of the problem among your employees and supply chain.

NSF also offers regional and industry-specific social responsibility programs, including:

  • Sustainability Initiative of South Africa (SIZA): This program is a holistic offering that identifies problems, usually through an independent third-party audit, and provides appropriate support and interventions, including awareness-raising and relevant capacity-building programs.
  • Clearview: This unique certification scheme run by the Association of Labour Providers (ALP) involves audits of labor providers to demonstrate they operate to good ethical standards. NSF is the sole scheme manager. Learn more on the Clearview website.
  • Sedex: One of the world’s leading organizations helping companies manage responsible sourcing in their supply chain, Sedex has 50,000 members in 150 countries and has gathered over 280,000 audits worldwide. We can help you engage with Sedex, guiding you through the registration process, assisting you with your self-assessment, or conducting your SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) for you.
